Lightning Acquire Scalzo From Dallas

Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired defenseman Mario Scalza from the Dallas Stars in exchange for defenseman Bryce Lampman, Executive Vice President and General Manager Jay Feaster announced. Scalzo has been assigned to the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League. Scalzo, 5-foot-9 and 190 pounds, has played in 15 games with the AHL?s Iowa Stars this season. He leads all Stars' defensemen in points with nine and is tied for second on the team with eight assists. He is also tied for first among team defensemen with a plus-1 rating. He recorded the first multi-goal game in Iowa Stars' history in 2005.

Ducks Acquire Sutherby For 2nd Round Pick

The Anaheim Ducks announced Monday that the club has acquired center Brian Sutherby from the Washington Capitals in exchange for the club?s second round pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Sutherby, 25, has appeared in five contests this season for Washington, earning 1-0=1 point with seven penalty minutes (PIM). The Edmonton, Alberta native has played in 259 career NHL contests over six seasons with Washington, collecting 26-35=61 points with 281 PIM. Sutherby played in a career-high 76 games with the Capitals in 2005-06, while also establishing career-highs in goals, assists and points (14-16=30). The 6-3, 215-pound center also appeared in five Stanley Cup Playoff contests with Washington in 2002-03, going scoreless with 10 PIM. Drafted by Washington in the first round (26th overall) of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Sutherby appeared in 208 career contests with Moose Jaw of the Western Hockey League (WHL), recording 79-99=178 points with 362 PIM over four seasons. He led the club in both goals (34) and points (77) during the 2000-01 season. Sutherby has also played in 64 American Hockey League (AHL) contests with Portland, earning 12-28=40 points with 142 PIM. In addition, he represented Team Canada at the 2002 World Junior Championship in the Czech Republic, winning the silver medal.

The Columbus Blue Jackets have acquired defensemen Aaron Rome and Clay Wilson from the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for center Geoff Platt, Blue Jackets General Manager Scott Howson announced today. Both Rome and Wilson were then assigned to the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus?s American Hockey League affiliate. Rome, 24, is playing in his fourth professional season and has tallied two goals and three assists for five points with 31 penalty minutes in 14 games with the AHL?s Portland Pirates this season. He has registered 17-53-70 and 387 penalty minutes in 229 career AHL games with Cincinnati and Portland, including a career-high 8-17-25 and 139 penalty minutes in 76 games with the Pirates in 2006-07. He also made his NHL debut with the Ducks last season, logging 14:31 of ice time against Detroit on Jan. 2, 2007 and appeared in one Stanley Cup Playoffs game in Game Four of the Western Conference Quarterfinals vs. Minnesota. The Nesbitt, Manitoba native was originally selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the fourth round, 104th overall, of the 2002 Entry Draft. He played junior hockey for Saskatoon, Kootenay, Swift Current and Moose Jaw of the Western Hockey League and collected 31-124-155 and 646 penalty minutes in 304 games from 1999-04. He earned WHL East Second All-Star Team honors in 2003-04 after notching 10-42-52, 210 penalty minutes and a +36 plus/minus rating in 69 games with Swift Current and Moose Jaw. Wilson, 24, has tallied 3-5-8 and six penalty minutes in 14 games with Portland this season, which is the third of his professional career. He has notched 22-66-88 and 98 penalty minutes in 153 career AHL games with Portland and Grand Rapids. Last year, he led all Portland defensemen in goals, assists and points with 9-34-43 and 52 penalty minutes in 79 games. His point totals ranked seventh among AHL blueliners. Signed by Anaheim as a free agent on July 11, 2006, Wilson played four seasons at Michigan Tech University of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association from 2001-05. The Sturgeon Lake, Minnesota native recorded 17-40-57 and 119 penalty minutes in 148 games during his college career.

Avs Acquire Goaltender Bacashihua From St. Louis

The Avalanche have acquired goaltender Jason Bacashihua from the Blues in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2008 NHL entry draft. The Avs assigned Bacashihua to Lake Erie, the team's AHL affiliate in Cleveland.
